St Stanislaus

Stanislaus was born to parents who had a lot of money. His parents had tried for many years to have children and when Stanislaus was born they showed their thankfulness to God by giving their son back to God. When his parents died, they left all their money to their son. He gave everything he had been given to the poor. Stanislaus went to school in Poland and in France and he became a priest. When he was 42 years old he was appointed Bishop of Krakow. He served his people very humbly and they loved their Bishop. Stanislaus always stood for what was right according to God. The King of Poland at this time was King Boleslaus II and he was not a very good king. He was very mean and did not live a holy life. Bishop Stanislaus felt God was calling him to help the King to turn from the sinful choices he was making. Bishop Stanislaus spoke many times with the King about Jesus and His mercy. For a while the King changed his ways and was trying to be better. He soon started making sinful choices but this time things were much worse. The King tried to have Bishop Stanislaus killed 3 different times. Finally, filled with so much anger King Boleslaus attacked Bishop Stanislaus while he was saying mass and the Bishop was killed.
