St Bonaventure

When Bonaventure was a baby he became very sick, so his mother asked St. Francis of Assisi to come and pray for him to get better. As St. Francis prayed he knew that Bonaventure would become a great person and so he said “O Buona Ventura” which means “O good fortune!”. That is why his mother called him Bonaventure! When he grew up he became a Franciscan priest. He was sent to Paris along with his friend St Thomas Aquinas, to study with some great teachers. He had many important jobs in the Church during his life; one of the most important was being the Cardinal and Bishop of Albano, which is one of the Sees of Rome. Because of all of his great work within the Church, he is considered one of the Doctors of the Catholic Church.
