Adelaide

Adelaide was sent to a convent to live with the Cistercian sisters when she was only 7 years old. The sisters loved her so much because she was such a kind and humble girl. The sisters were so sad when they found out that Adelaide had became sick with a disease called leprosy (a sickness of the skin). In those days you could not heal someone with leprosy and it was easily spread and very dangerous, so the sisters had to keep Adelaide away from all of the sisters. So Adelaide spent most of her time alone and had to be very careful not to get close to the sisters so that she did not get them sick too. She suffered her illness quietly and with a lot of grace; she never complained. She spent her days praying and talking to God, and God comforted her and gave her special visions and graces. After Adelaide became blind and was no longer able to move, she joined Jesus in heaven. Many people asked for her prayers and Jesus performed many miracles through her intercession.
