St Emily
Emily was born into a very rich family and she was sent to study in Paris. Her mother died when Emily was only 15 years old and Emily returned to her home to be with her father. Her father wanted to find a good husband for her, but Emily didn’t want to get married she wanted to serve God as a nun. With the help of her Parish priest, Fr. Mercier, she started to help little boys and girls who were not well taken care of and to take care of the poor and sick in her community. She did this at her Father’s home until her grandfather left her lots of money when he died. She used her grandfather’s money to buy a really big house and started a convent with 3 other girls. They called themselves the “Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition” and many more girls joined them in the years to come. They continued the work that Emily started in her father’s home. Sr. Emily started convents in Burma and Australia and before she died there were over 40 convents around the world.
