Matthias was a follower of Jesus when he was alive. After Jesus ascended into heaven his disciples wanted to choose an Apostle to replace Judas; so they gathered to pray and ask God who they should choose. Matthias was chosen, you can read about it in the Bible - Acts 1:23-26. He spread the Good News about Jesus being Risen from the dead in Judea and Cappadocia (now Turkey), Egypt and Ethiopia. Many people came to believe in Jesus because of Matthias’ words. The more people that became Christian because of Matthias sharing the gospel, the more the enemies of Jesus became angry. They decided that they needed to stop Matthias from spreading the Good News and they stoned him to death. Matthias died a martyr because he refused to be silent and continued to spread the gospel until he died.
