Ubald grew up with his Uncle who was a Bishop. He received a good education and after finishing school became a priest. Many years later he was made a Bishop of the town that he grew up in, Gubbio in Italy. Bishop Ubald was known as a peacemaker. In many ways he helped his people to live in peace with one another and he was not afraid to do what he needed to do to help people live peacefully. He stopped fights in the street, he forgave those who treated him badly, he even stopped an Emperor from attacking his town just by meeting with him and talking to him. As he got old, Bishop Ubald got very sick. Even though he felt a lot of pain, he still did all he could for his people and he never complained. When he died on this day in the year 1160, all the people cried because they loved him so much.
