St Bartholomew

Bartholomew was the 4th Apostle that Jesus called to follow him. He was also called by the name Nathaniel. We can read about Jesus calling Bartholomew (Nathaniel) to be His Apostle in John 1:43-51. Phillip told Bartholomew that he had found Jesus who he believed was the Messiah. At first Bartholomew did not think that Jesus could be the Messiah because he was from Nazareth and nothing good could come from Nazareth. Then Jesus came and spoke to Bartholomew like he knew who he was, and he said that Bartholomew was a very good man, someone that could only speak the truth. Bartholomew asked Jesus how He knew him. Jesus replied that he saw him sitting under a fig tree before Phillip called him. Bartholomew realized that Jesus saw him praying under the fig tree through a miracle and that Jesus knew what was in his heart and mind. From that moment on Bartholomew believed that Jesus was the Son of God. He spent the rest of His life proclaiming the Gospel and he died as a martyr spreading the Good News in many lands.
