St Jane Frances de Chantel
Jane grew up learning about the faith from her father who encouraged all his children to learn and ask questions about everything. When she was 20 years old she married Christophe who became Baron (which means he was important in the city) but who took over a lot of problems and debt from his father. Jane used her strong faith and her good and kind hearted nature to help her and her husband work through the hard times of their first years of marriage. Jane and Christophe really loved each other and they lived a very happy life with their 4 children, until Christophe died in a hunting accident. A friend of Christophe accidentally shot him and before Christophe died he forgave his friend and told him not to be angry about what he had done. It was harder for Jane to forgive because she missed her husband so much, but she followed her husband’s example and did forgive with her whole heart. After Christophe died, Jane spent lots of time in prayer getting to know Jesus more. She became friends with St. Francis de Sales who helped her start a convent for all the women that no other convent would take because they were too old or sick, the order of the Visitation. She taught her children and her sisters that no matter how many times you fall and sin, you need to always get back up and tell Jesus that you love Him and put your heart in the right direction again.
